What Causes Small And Unusual Periods Intermittently?
I got my period and it lasted 5 days which is normal for me, and then I got it again two days after it ended and its been going for three days now. It does t bleed during the night and starts half way through the day. Can this be normal or is something wrong?
Age factor plays a great role in differential diagnosis of intermittent menstrual bleeding.
1. Hormonal disturbance can cause such irregularities. Particularly Thyroid dysfunctions at the two ends of menstrual life-string are common causes. Blood examination for T3, T4, TSH will detect such Thyroid dysfunction. Reproductory hormonal dysfunction also can cause irregularities in menstruation. Please get blood examined for FSH, LH, Prolactin, Oestrogen & Progesterone. Dysfunction in these hormones may be corrected temporarily by oral birth control pills; however thorough investigations for the underlying cause is mandatory.
2. Any new growths in the uterus, like Fibroid uterus are typically known to cause intermenstrual bleeding. Ultrasonography can detect such abnormal growths. If found, surgical management is indicated.
Please report to your Gynaecologist. Hormonal dysfunctions can best be reverted when tackled early.
I hope this helps you.
