What Causes Sleep Disorders With Anxiety And Depression?

my husband has trouble sleeping, has anxiety, he explains that his thoughts won't stop, easily angers, and feels almost hopeless. He had blood work in Nov. 2010, and the testosterone level was in the 200's. He is 34 and very healthy otherwise. Always worked out. He was prescribed Xanax, .25mg 1 PO Q HS. Please help.

I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Xanax is a good medication for anxiety but it should be used only for short periods of time, because it develops tolerance and dependence. So since his symptoms seem to have been present for a while I would suggest a more long term solution like antidepressives, tricyclic class like amitriptyline or SSRIs like citalopram. Xanax can still be used temporarily, as the antidepressives need some weeks to fully exercise their effect, but shouldn't be used for more then a month.

I hope he will feel better soon.
