What Causes Sleep Apnea In Elderly?

my father age is 65+ and he is not sleeping well because of this issue his health conditions getting gradually reduced we check with our nearest town physician.but he is also not able to resolve the problem we don t have enough money to go for a hospital so pls request u.pls suggest any sleeping medicine without any side effects.

Hello and thank you for your question.
If he has sleep apnea then medications will not improve his sleep. There are no sleep medications without side effects. Probably the safest sleep medications with the least side effects are trazodone and diphenhydramine. In the elderly all sleep medications can cause over sedation and create a risk for falls. If he has sleep apnea he will need to be tested for this and the treatment is a mechanical device called Cpap.
