Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Skin Peeling On Hands And Feet While On Lamictal?
My hands (palms) and feet (soles) peel repeatedly. Large pieces of skin peels off in layers until eventually over a couple of weeks, the entire area (palms or soles) has completely peeled. For a week or so there will be no peeling and then it starts over. There is no pain, redness, or swelling. I take Lamictal (not sure if this could be side effect) but I also have Renauds with no apparent associated issues.
Hello, Thank you for the question. Actually, Lamictal may cause a severe or life-threatening skin rash in people who take too high of a starting a dose. It is side effect of medicine unfortunately, some type of skin reaction, Langerhan's cells of skin becomes fully functional antigen-presenting cells for this medicicine, these cells capture, uptake and processing medicine's antigens.
Seek medical attention if you have a red or purple skin rash that spreads in the face or upper body and causes blistering and peeling, but you should not stop taking medicines, because seizures can be increased. You try to use emollients for skin .Consult and discuss dosage of Lamictal with your neurologist. Take care! Dr.Sagar Shrivastva
