What Causes Skin Darkening In Patch With Hair Growth On It?

I am a 54yr old post menopausal women who has an area approximately 4cm in diameter on my L leg that has been itching for months. It is slightly discolored (a little darker than my normal skin tone) and today I noticed that this area is begining to sprout hair. I am not on any hormone replacement therapy. I do not have my ovaries, tubes or uterus. It is important for you to know that I have sarcoid as well but this area looks nothing like my sarcoid. What can cause this?

Hi,

It may be lichen simplex chronicus due to continuous itching. Skin becomes thick, pigmented, dry and rough. Stress and worries might precipitate the disease. Apply ointment like steroid with salicylic acid oint. Take antihistaminics like cetirizine daily.if needed, oral steroid may be started. Intradermal steroid injection may be considered by expert.

Hope this helps.
