What Causes Sinusitis Along With Blocked Ears And Tinnitus?

My daughter has had severe sinus infection for a couple of months. Her ears are congested and has a whooshing sound. Thick green mucus is coming from her nose, has difficulty breathing. She went to doctor and she was told she was overreacting. They gave no medication. She has a lot of discomfort. What should she do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Thick green mucus with ear congestion and difficulty in breathing might be related to upper respiratory tract infection or inflammation. I would advise her for a decongestant like levocetirizine or xylometazoline nasal drops or spray, deep breathing exercises, warm saline gargling and vitamin C supplements.

If it doesn't subside than she may require a course of antibiotics like Amoxyclav/Levofloxacin under medical supervision. Baseline investigation like CBC, AEC, ESR, liver function test and an x-ray PNS (paranasal sinuses) is advisable to ascertain the diagnosis.

Hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. BR Hudda
