What Causes Shoulder Pain After Insertion Of PICC Line In The Arm?

I had a picc line in my left arm that was put I Wednesday for iv antibiotics and I just started having a sharp pain in my left shoulder blade area tonight. It hurts to breathe deep and to move the right arm. Should I be worried that it s a blood c!of? I am flushing the lines with heplock after each use which is three times day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the pain is muscular due to bad positioning of the arm during iv injection. However, blood clot should be ruled out too through Doppler ultrasound. Discuss this with your caring doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
