What causes shortness of breath, asthma and constant exhaustion?

I m having shortness of breath. I ve been diagnosed with asthma but not on any medication for asthma. For the last week I can t lay down, I don t sleep well, I m constantly exhausted, I also have arrithmia for which I take several medications. I m 62 years old and contemplating taking myself to the ER. Comments?t
