Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have shortness of breath running out of breath when I laugh or talk. I also have a knot in my upper left back that feels like muscle soreness. Finally, I have had instances where my left arm went numb in which I went to the emergency room. Other than heart, could this be cancer of some type. Not a smoker.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Varinder's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, cancer can occur in non-smokers too. But cancer is not so common even in heavy smokers. So instead of taking stress go for chest X-ray posterior-anterior view and lateral view. Also, undergo cervical spine X-ray to rule out cervical strain as your arms have numbness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Varinder Joshi
