What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Pain In The Chest?

My last blood work showed a very high c reactive protein level of 7.8. My PCP also told me that I had an abnormal EKG which showed a slightly inverted T-wave. I scheduled a visit with a cardiologist who did another EKG which was normal and they did a CT scan of my heart with calcium scoring which showed no signs of cardiac disease. My cholesterol levels are perfect and my arteries are wide open. I have since noticed a marked decrease in my lung capacity and am experiencing some distinct soreness with deep inspiration. It feels like my torso is inflamed. I quit smoking 30 years ago but worked from age 33-49 in a steel plant welding and burning and was exposed to a lot of graphite dust and silica. What kinds of screenings can I have to try to find the source of my inflammation and SOB? Could they be related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, likely origin of your symptoms are from lungs and lung function tests along with HRC chest should be done. Bronchoscopy or lung biopsy isn't needed at this stage.

Any possibility of interstitial lung diseases or hypersensitivity pneumonitis or the possibility of occupational lung diseases needs to be worked up. Detailed Pulmonologist review is a must.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
