What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Muscles Spasms After Child Birth?

My daughter is four days postpartum. She returned to the ER on Sunday with symptoms of nausea, shortness of breath and weakness. They found her blood pressure to be extremely high. A pulmonary embolism was ruled out by CT scan. EKG and Eco results are normal. No protein in her urine. They diagnosed her with postpartum pre eclampsia and treated with a drip for 24 hours to prevent seizures (can t remember exactly what it was). Blood pressure has stabilized but remains much higher than her norm. She is 30 years old and weighs approximately 100 pounds, pre- pregnancy. She gained 25 pounds during the pregnancy and delivered a health (beautiful) 8 lb. baby boy. Since they stopped the medication, she continues to have symptoms as follows: Shortness of breath upon exertion (going to the bathroom) Muscle spasms Throbbing head when she lays back Intermittent rapid heart beat (wakes her up if she s sleeping) Now here s the question. She had surgery under general anesthesia several years ago and had some complications. It has resulted in her having frequent vertigo. She had an epidural for the delivery. Could there be any correlation between the two? Thank you so much for you input and help. She s still hospitalized and they are moving her to the tele floor. What questions should we ask at this point?
