What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Irregular Pulse Rate?

hi,former paramedic here....i know -big deal...my wife is 36,hasn t been to a dr. in awhile. smokes a pack of cigs a day, has started experiencing bouts of shortness of breath during rest that go away after a bit. I took her pulse during one of these episodes, it was irregular, thready....it made me instantly think of the atrial fibrilation

She needs detailed evaluation by her primary provider. EKG, pulmonary function test, chest Xray, complete blood count with Hb are required at this point.
