What Causes Shooting And Stabbing Pain In The Back?

I have really bad back pain in different parts of my back. The worst pain only happenes maybe once or twice every two weeks but it is extremely bad pain and I cannot feel my legs right for the next few hours. This happens when I bend over in a particular possition. Other pains shoot up and down my spine while others feel like aches and stabs. A physiotherapist told me I have mild scoliosis but it shouldn t hurt so bad. A back surgeon told me that I am probably just having muscle spasms because I am growing but it doesn t feel like that. I think it hurts far to bad to be just that. I have had exrays but been told that I have no bone damage.
