What Causes Sharp Rectal Pain While Treating Fibroids?

History of fibroids, awaiting a hysterectomy. Recently began experiencing sharp rectal pain when using bathroom, in addition to severe lower back pain, rectal pain when sitting for extended periods of time, and pain radiating down buttocks/rear of back leg. Could the rectal pain be related to the fibroids?

OBGYN, Gynecologic Oncology 's  Response
Hello,

Fibroids, especially if large in size and projecting from the lower aspect of the back wall of the uterus can cause pain, discomfort and other symptoms due to pressure upon the rectum and nearby nerves and blood vessels.

Hopefully, the symptoms will be relieved once you have had hysterectomy and uterus has been removed. It would also give the surgeon to have chance to look into any other explanations for pain due to associated conditions such as endometriosis, adhesions and swellings over the ovaries.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sabina Hussain
