What Causes Sharp Pelvic Pain And Abdominal Pain After Intercourse?

Hi, A couple of weeks back I began to have sharp pelvic pain and abdominal pain after intercourse. its lasted 3 days, I then took a pregnancy test which showed positive. Knowing that I went to the ER to see if everything was ok, they confirmed my pregnancy at 4 weeks & did a pelvic & transvaginal ultrasound. The ultrasound found some fluid & they reffered me to the OBGYN to do further tests. They did say it was not a pregnancy in the fallopian tubes or anything like that. I have not been able to go due to the fact that I am still waiting to recieve insurance. Is it possible to go to my regular Dr to check out the fluid? I had a papsmear done not long ago & I had a UTI. I was wondering if she performed another papsmear that we would be able to see what the fluid is? or do i have to go strictly to the OBGYN?

OBGYN 's  Response
A Pap smear is only a screening test that is done for cervical cancer. When it is normal you only need one every 3 years. A regular doctor would not see you for this problem because the management of pregnancy is generally done by an OBGYN. But if they were sure your pregnancy was in your uterus on the ultrasound you had (meaning that they were absolutely sure you do not have a tubal pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy) there is no hurry to follow up urgently because your pregnancy is very early! Fluid in the pelvis can be found in normal, healthy pregnancies. But if you experience any severe abdominal pain, especially on one side, or have vaginal bleeding along with it, I would go back to the emergency department for re-evaluation. I hope this was helpful and good luck with your pregnancies.
