What Causes Sharp Pains In The Breast?
hi I have been having very sharp pains in the left side of my left breast and it goes into my armpit? it feels like a knife. it is only happening in my left breast, I have been checked in the past and there was more fibroids in my right. Why does the left hurt so much and is there anything I can do?

1. Acute pain in the breast is seen in case of inflammatory change, ductal ectasia, presence of abscess.
2.In this case what you should do is to get an ultrasound breast done - it will evaluate the nature of the lesion - mass lesion / cystic / ductal dilatation / abscess.
3.Depending on the findings appropriate treatment can be given. As in abscess ( pain on touch ) a small incision and drainage, in inflammation you need to get a course of antibiotics will help.
4.At the same time you will get the status of the lesions in the right breast.
5. If any mass lesion - an FNAC - fine needle aspiration cytology will be needed.
6.Mean while if you feel pain - a pain killer can be taken, after the assessment definitive treatment can be start.
