What Causes Sharp Pain On The Right Side Under The Rib Cage?
i get a sharp pain on the right side under my rib cage, then something bulged out and felt like it swelled up and over the bottom of my ribs! I jumped up from a sitting position and stretched and pushed on this 'mass' and it went back down and the pain went away! what is it?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. The likely causes for a sharp pain below the right side of the rib cage are: 1) Acute cholicystitis - inflammation / infection of the gall bladder. 2) Pleuritis - inflammation of the covering layer of the lungs. If the pleura around the left lower lobe of the lung is involved, then this can also cause your symptoms. 3) Muscle pull or strain - upper abdominal wall muscles can sometimes get pulled or strained inadvertently and can cause sharp pain, which worsens on breathing or bending down. 4) A sub-phrenic abscess - i.e. a collection of pus below the diaphragm
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
