What Causes Sharp Pain In Right Tonsil/ear When Swallowing Or Yawning?

Hi, I have a sharp pain in my right tonsil area, also the pain goes into my right ear when swallowing or yawning. I've had it for about 2 weeks, no fever, no other symptoms or swelling. Pain with swallowing and even worse pain with yawning. Feels like tonsil is being stabbed with a hot needle.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query have symptoms of sharp pain in right tonsil/ear when swallowing or yawning which can occur due to viral as well as bacterial infection. Avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages and avoid hot, sharp and spicy food substances. If condition is getting worse and there are swollen tonsils then you should consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Doctor may examine physically , order tests like throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test to rule out condition like strep throat . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin along with anti inflammatory and in some cases tonsillectomy is also required but in advance stages.
