What Causes Sharp Pain At The Back Radiating Towards The Chest?
My daughter had the flu a couple of weeks ago and has had a persistent cough since. Her chest muscles are sore from the coughing. Last night she felt / heard a popping sound in her upper back and now has a sharp pain that goes from her upper back through to the front of her chest. We re thinking it s just muscle strains from the coughing....

From history it seems that this can be due to stretching of inter-costal muscles producing strain on muscles giving this problem.
But as there is persistent cough since long there might be having some problem in the lungs giving rise pleuritic pain.
go for x-ray chest to rule out any pulmonary problem.
Meanwhile give her analgesic medicine to relieve pain.
Ok and take care.
