What Causes Sharp Cervix Pain With Contractions At 36 Weeks?

I am experiencing sharp cervix pain. The pain feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife. I am having contractions, but have for the last 8 weeks. I am 36 weeks in my 5th pregnancy. Never had before. Should I be concerned. I am scheduled to be induced in 3 days due to ICP.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Pressure on the cervix due to the presenting part can often cause such pain, precipitated by fetal movement. If you have had any procedure like a cervical encirclage done on your cervix, this can also be considered as the cause of the pain. Active contractions, as you already know, cause pain along the thigh and also the back as the cervix effaces and dilates. Look for any vaginal discharge or bleeding and report immediately to your health care provider. Please take rest preferably in left lateral position, monitor fetal movements and do not stress. You can also use slight foot end elevation. Hope this helps.
