What causes severe water retention in the body?

My good friend had an adrenal gland tumor removed in Dec. And then thyroid surgery in Jan. Since then she has gained 50 pounds most of which is due to sever water retention. Her doctors tell her all her numbers are within normal range. Could there be other issues? She is 54, 5 3 and currently 160.

HI
Well come to HCM
This may not be the retention of water but could be the weight gain phenomenon to clear the doubt of retention better to get done the Renal function test, this would clear the doubt, but chances of this is very minimal and this is nothing to worry, hope this helps.
