What Causes Severe Vaginal Dryness While On Primella For Yeast Infection?
I m a woman who has suffered from frequent yeast infections over the past couple of years. None of the treatments my PCP has prescribed provide relief for more than a couple of weeks. I was recently put on Primella (pink box birth control pills), and I now have a severely itchy, burning labia majora. There is also what appears to be chafing along the edges of the labia majora (dry skin almost). Is this just another yeast infection or could it be another type of infection that is commonly misdiagnosed as a yeast infection due to its similarity to the symptoms?

What Causes Severe Vaginal Dryness While On Primella For Yeast Infection?
Hi, Vaginal dryness is common and usually result of lack of estrogens but some other less common causes may be present. The most common treatment for vaginal dryness due to low estrogen levels is topical estrogen therapy. In order to keep the vagina more lubricated, try using a vaginal moisturizer (Replens). You use a disposable applicator such as Vagifem to insert a tablet into your vagina once a day for the first two weeks of treatment. Avoid using douches, bubble baths, scented soaps, and lotions around the sensitive vaginal area. These products can worsen dryness. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
