What Causes Severe Tic In Face, right Eye And Cheek?

I have started having a severe facial tic with my right eye and cheek. Not painful, just spasms. Saw my general physician and he was going to recommend a neurologist who he said may want to give Botox injections. I am very hesitant about treating it with that method. Is there more alternatives? Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query .The condition you describe above is called hemifacial spasm or tic convulsif .In this condition involuntary contraction of facial muscles occur due disturbance of facial nerve due to various reasons like compression of nerve due to some artery ,tumour or sometime bell's palsy.

I would suggest you to consult your neurologist ,because he/she is the one who can decide which kind of treatment should be given after careful evaluation of your condition. Neurologist will take your medical history and may order test like MRI to rule out conditions like tumor and electromyogram to check electrical activity of your muscles.

In mild case medication or botox injection is given .Botox injection contain toxin botulinum produce by bacteria and is very safe procedure .Patient who refuse to opt botox injection will be given medications like anti convulsant (phenytoin)and muscle relaxant .

But in severe case or where above two methods do not work surgery will be the only option left known as microvarcular decompression .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
