What Causes Severe Sore Throat And Red Swollen Uvula?

I have had a severe sore throat since last Saturday when I got a strep test which was neg. I was told to gargle with warm salt water and get an antiseptic spray and use Advil. I have a red swollen uvula and it is almost completely covered by a white patch. I also have several smaller white patches on the side of my throat. I went to the dr. On Mon and was put on an antibiotic which is not helping either. It is very painful to drink or eat anything and my neck has been sore also. Any ideas of what I should do next?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain sore throat, white spots and swollen uvula can be dye to reasons like Throat infection caused by bacteria or virus, post nasal drip, sinusitis,acid reflux etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a clinical examination, upper G.I endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..

As of now do warm saline gargles and take Ibuprofen for relieving pain and inflammation.
Do steam inhalation and take a soft diet..
