What Causes Severe Scalp Itchiness While Treating Eczema?

I have been treated for excema starting on my arm after a routine blood donation in January-had a reaction to the scrub used prior to the donation. Since that time I developed a rash on my chest and on my face. Around that time the back of my scalp started itching. I was treated with a cortisone shot, then pills and benadryl for about 5 days. It immediately cleared up all symptoms. I have a prescription topical cream for flare ups on my skin, but my scalp it itching to the point of distraction. I tried head and shoulders which helped temporarily, but it is back and very uncomfortable. What can I do? Thanks

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi.
As per your case history of itching on scalp, my treatment advice is -
1. Stop applying hair oil at least for 3 weeks.
2. Don't scratch scalp during itching as it may worsen the condition.
3. Apply a mild topical steroid plus antifungal lotion like Candid-b once at night on entire scalp.
4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine for itching.
5. Other treatment options are oral fluconazole, itraconazole and terbinafine taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Thanks.
Dr. Harshit bhachech.
