What Causes Severe Pricking Sensation And Black Discolouration In Toes?

HI, I am having a terrible pricking sensation in my toe next to the big toe. Now the pricking sensation is being felt in the big toe as well as middle toe every few mins like a needle is being pierced into that area. I now noticed that there is a swelling and pus like formation on the bottom of my toe next to big toe (index toe) and it is extremely painful. And now i can see that the colour of my index toe and middle toe are slightly turning to black ( like a blood clot ). I m not sure what this could be.? Can you please guide me. I m 51 years old and my diabetes is under control. Can this be gangrene.?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The presence of pus indicates that there is an infection present in the toe. This would cause the pain and abnormal sensations.

This needs to be assessed as soon as possible.

Diabetic infected feet normally require immediate treatment to avoid any complications.
Because your diabetes is under control, it is quite possible that with treatment, you should be fine but you need to see your doctor.

A small incision of the infected area and a course of antibiotics would be needed.

I hope this helps
