What Causes Severe Panic Attacks?

I have a lot of panic attacks...typically on a daily basis and sometimes multiple attacks in a day. I am taking buspirone and have taken xanax, but I m currently out of it. It s disrupting my life to the point I fear the next attack. At what point do panic attacks become a very serious issue and what should I do?

Hi,

If your panic attack diagnosis was made by a psychiatrist, you should continue
your medications and must not make dosage changes/cease without his/her approval. If you take these drugs without supervision, I suggest a check-up before psychiatric medications. Sometimes cardiac problems like arrhytmias or mitral valve prolapsus or hyperthyroidism, excessive caffeine or stimulant intake may cause panic attack like symptoms. After excluding all of these possibilities, you must visit a psychiatrist for appropriate medications. I also suggest breathing exercises, yoga, classical music and regular exercise for lowering stress levels and relaxation.

May you recover soon
