What causes severe pain under the ribcage and upper back along with nausea and dizziness?

Hi I am a 58 year old female. I have severe pain to the left of my stomach under my rib cage which radiates to my upper back and shoulder. I have had a very temp of 34.3 to 35. I am extremely nauseous, sweats and dizziness and fatigue. I have no appetite. I have a bright red blood in my loose stools as well as just blood coming out after I m finished. The odor seems to be different as well. Help I feel very ill. Also rapid heart rate which has woken me up during the night. I feel very ill and in terrible pain.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The narrated symptoms indicate possible inflammation of the colon in form of diverticulitis or others. I recommend a systemic case evaluation with history, physical examination to evaluate the signs and get necessary work up for the diagnosis.

Took my husband to ER. when on vacation 2 days ago. He had severe pain in upper midsection of back, going through to his upper rt. Stomach, ribcage area. They did blood work to Check the panceas. His WBC was 20., the pancreas enzyme was not elevated. Did CT scan, told us there was a red raw looking area around the pancreas, also has gallstones. Said the CT SUGGEST pancreatitis. Did ultrasound on gallbladder. Showed gallstones but nothing husbands systoms was the pain I noted above also nausea, the pain would get so bad at times he would break out in a cold clammy sweat. He has never drank acholol. They told us they were buffaloed because the blood work and ct. Did not agree. They gave him 1 dose antibodies intravenous, 1/2bag IV fluids, 1 Phenergan shot , 1 pain shot. Came home the next morning after leaving ER. Which was a 7hr. Drive. He is doing better at the moment, no pain at this time but he is not eating much either. If the gallstones are causing this problem, should the gallbladder be removed. We are very, very concerned...

I am getting a pain under my left rib cage that feels like there is something there that was not there before. It is most severe after I eat but I also get it when I have not eaten anything. I also get a pain in my back in the same area that the pain is in the front. It feels like bloating mixed with something there. I thought that it was a hiatal hernia but its been ruled out. Its becoming more frequent. Any idea what this could be?
