What Causes Severe Pain Post Removal Of Tonsils?

My 9 year old daughter just had her tonsils and adenoids removed on Friday and is still in a lot of pain and has not been eating or drinking. She has been running a temp of over 101 and has begun to vomit today after receiving her pain meds. What should I do? I know it is important for her to eat and drink.

Hi...
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain pain fter a surgical procedure is not an abnormal finding and as the healing will proceed the pain will also subside..
Fever seems to be due to septicemia that is when the bacterial from the site of infection or surgery enters the blood stream the body's defence mechanism tries to fight the infection and causes rise in body temperature..
Tylenol can be given to her to reduce fever as well as it will relieve pain..
Vomiting is a side effect of the medicines that she is taking, so I would suggest you to consult her treating surgeon and get her evaluated for any active infection so that he can advise him antibiotics for it..
He can change the pain medications with other drugs that do not cause side effects and also relieve her discomfort..
She can also gargle with numbing mouthwash to relieve pain..
Feed her with more of fluids to prevent dehydration and malnutrition..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
