Hallow Dear,
You had catheter after surgery. Even while you had catheter in, you were having agonising pain. There are two possibilities:
1. There is an abrasion in the urethra due to the catheter. However, pain due to abrasion would have become less and subsequently subsided with
Phenazopyridine (Pyridacil or
Pyridium) - the medicine which is causing your urine orange coloured. It is specific urinary painkiller. Hence, I would advise you to continue these tablets which subsequently will give you relief.
2. Urerthal infection (?due to
urethral injury due to catheter or otherwise): To confirm this diagnosis, please get your urine examination done. In fact this should have been the first investigation and not CT. If it shows infection, you will have to have an a course of antibiotics. However, I would suggest you to get urine culture and sensitivity done to identify the organisms and the antibiotics to which they are sensitive. Accordingly, specific antibiotics may be started.
If there is no urinary infection, Phenazopyridine with urinary systemic alkalinizers like Citralka will give you symptomatic relief.
3. Crystalls in the urine: Depending up on the type of crystals, urine will have to be made alkaline or acidic and accordingly diet will have to be modified and you will have to drink plenty of water. However, crystaluria will not cause pain in urethra while catheter in situ.
Till the diagnosis is confirmed, along with Phenazopyridine, drink plenty of water to minimize the
urethral irritation by irritant urine. Whatever the cause, please drink plenty of water.
I hope this helps you.
