What Causes Severe Pain In The Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?

My 15 yr old son is complaining of extreme pain in his throats and glands, he has difficulty swallowing, a raised temp and now a sore ear. He is concerning me because he says he has never before felt so unwell. I'm treating him with the usual home remedies but nothing seems to be helping.. should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
Symptoms could be due to upper respiratory infection/sore throat, tonsillitis.
Infection of throat can transfer to ear and produce middle ear infection and sore ear.
I would suggest to consult ENT specialist for examination and take proper treatment.
Following treatment will help you:
Drugs like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain
Local pain killer for the throat such as choloroseptic spray
Drugs like diomnic DA
Precribed antibiotic like azithromycin
Drink plenty of luke warm water
Strepsils lozenges every 3-4 hourly
Take proper rest and take soft diet
Steam inhalation
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
