What Causes Severe Pain In The Solar Plexus?

All day today I have been having severe throbbing and stabbing pains in my solar plexus. I thought it was real bad indigestion so I ate some tums and no relief. I tried soda water and eating some bread. No help. Should I go have this checked out? I am 37 yrs old and would say I am under weight for my height.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear patient,
I have read your question and I understand your concern.
What you describe looks to me like a gastric ulcer or a gastroesophageal reflux disease.
This are both conditions caused by high gasteic acid levels in your stomach, which gives you the feeling of throbbing and stabbing in the solar plexus.
This increase in gasteic acid can be caused by diet or stress.
I recommend you to change your diet, starting with more vegetables, less meat.
You should stop smoking, alcohol and chocolates.
Also soda drinks and fried food can affect you negatively.
Then you need to eat smaller meals, 3-5 times per day.
If you are going through a difficult and stressful time in your life, I would recommend you seeing a counsellor.
Lastly, I would prescribe you Omeprazole 20 every day for 4-8 weeks.
I hope I have answered your question.
Wish you good health!
Manoku Eni M.D.
