Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.

If you had a recent trauma this is an important factor that needs to be considered if structures in the back have been hurt or not.
If you did not have a trauma and the pain just seems to have happened or is related to weight lifting and you have no numbness, no leg weakness, no problem with urine and defecation and no numbness in the genital area you might
1. take paracetamol and optimal dose of Ibuprofen (800 mg every 6 hours after food to protect stomach) and
2. continue to be as active as the pain allows you- do not do bed rest, it makes the pain worse in long term.
3. If you do not see an improvement of the pain in 7-10 days or if you get worse or get new symptoms you will need to see a doctor asap.
4. Your ERS is a bit higher than is expected so I would recommend you to have it repeated in 2-3 weeks. If is still higher than 20 mm/h than you will need to be evaluated for some rare back problems in young males called anchilosant spondilitis. It is a very rate disease but needs to be ruled out id ERS continues to remain high.

Hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you

Best regards,
