What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

Hello. It s currently 4am here. Something woke me up and right now I am experiencing intense pain in the right side of my lower abdomen. I have had a Mirena IUD since December. I tried to feel for my strings but can t feel them at all (haven t felt them since insertion). I ve never had this pain before and it s extremely uncomfortable and on the pain scale about 6 or 7. My right leg feels numb compared to my left. I got up and walked around but it s getting worse. I m 24 years old and have never had a baby.

Thanks for the query.I understand your cincern.
This is first time that you are having pain ... the management would depend on cause.
*It can be just trapped gas in bowel due ti heavy meal &indigestion.. which would resolve after passing motion.
* You did not mention .. but if you have vomitting along with it,you should move to ER.. for mansgement of acute abdomen.
-As your history suggests.. it can be displaced Minera...causing an inflammatory reaction leading to pelvic inflammation &pain.
-Other causes include appendicular mass/tubo ovarian mass/ovarian cyst / disc problem.All of these can cause pain &numbness of right foot. causing pinching of lumber nerve root..
*Do not massage or foment the paiful area of abdomen...Ice pack may help.Avoid movements.
Anti inflammatory pill over the counter (ibuprofen) can be tsken after food.
*Consult your family surgeon for his expert advise. After physicak examination.. he may ordr for MRI .. it would pin point the cause.followed by cause specific treatment &referal to concerned expert.
