What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

I am experiencing lower abdominal stomach pains for the past 24 hours. The pain was intermittent last night and I have a bowel movement that was on the soft side and the pain subsided. I still have a dull pain that is manageable; however I also have a low grade fever and the chills. I still have an appetite, but am afraid to eat anything that may upset my stomach.

this could be due to a couple of things.
1. it could be a mild self limiting gastrointestinal infection which wouldn't need more than keeping yourself well hydrated
2. if it's more on the right side, it could be appendicitis in which case you would need to get yourself evaluated by your physician who would be in a better position to decide whether to put you on antibiotics or go for surgery
3. it could be due to UTI or stones in which case the pain is severe and sometimes associated with burning micturation or increased frequency. this would require a urine analysis and a KUB after which a decision for your treatment could be made.
4.if your a female this could be due ovarian cyst or a number of uterine pathologies, for which a detailed history as well as work up is required to reach the diagnosis.
watch your symptoms, if the pain goes away, nothing to worry about, it was probably some self limiting cause, but if your symptoms persist or increase in severity or new symptoms arise, you should visit your physician
