What Causes Severe Pain In The Cuticles?

I noticed that the base of my right big toes cuticle is painful. Happened almost suddenly and I was not sure if I had bumped it prior to this incident. Is throbbing when untouched and painful if applied pressure. Slightly swollen and red with no other noticeable changes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
In all probability as per your history, you are having paronechia of the right big toe. You must have been having ingrowing toe nail of the toe, and now it has got infected. You will have to take an antibiotic, like Tab Augumentin 625 mg 8 hourly for 7 days, if you serum creatinine values are normal. Please give rest to your right foot, and dress the bib toe with 5% Betadine solution. In addition please also get your serum uric acid levels checked to rule out Gouty arthritis pain of the right big toe.
