What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen?

For the second time in three weeks I have had sharp pains in my abdomen (on both sides of the belly button)that come and go and are accompanied by a fever, chills, loss of appetite, nausea and bed spins. The pain can bring me to my knees and lasts for two to three days and then subsides. My brother is a nurse and thinks I should see someone. Is this doctor-visit worthy? I don t like to waste anyone s time.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain around belly button with associated fever and pain raises the concern of appendicitis. Abdominal examination, blood work-up, and CT abdomen are required to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment of appendicitis is with antibiotics/surgery. Please be advised to follow up with the emergency room.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
