General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.

*how late was the period?
*did you take any pregnancy tests? Results?
*did you take any medications like contraceptive pills?

It could be a miscarriage but it could also be a heavy period.
I recommend :
-a OBGYN consult right away
-an ultrasound abdomen
-blood tests (complete blood count, beta hcg level, kidney and liver function tests, clotting profile)

In case of a miscarriage, you need to see a doctor right away to make sure it is completed and bleeding is as expected..

If not the cause of bleeding, like a ruptured ectopic pregnancy needs to be treated immediately as it is a threat to life.

Hope you feels better soon. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
