What Causes Severe Pain In Stomach And Genitals While Treating Hernia?

My father is 85 w/several complications. At this time from what he is telling me he has severe pain from the stomach area down to male organs. He has been diagnosed with a hernia , which is growing larger. This has been going on about a year. He is also diabetic & kidney desease, may have to have dialysis from mismanaged diabetic treatment, and heart problems w/the flutter valve in his heart being stuck open & 2 plugged arteries. Again no surgery can be done. He has had both lungs partially removed as well in his late 20 s early 30 s to remove damaged areas from being shot in the back w/buckshot at 14 yrs. His doctors say there can be no surgery to any of these areas as well as to remove the hernia. His primary PC has done nothing to help stop or slow down the growth of it ie: trusses or hernia belt. Has hard time breathing, can t bend over to say tie his shoe w/out getting dizzy, can t get his breath, unsteady on his feet, has even passed out. I m not sure how to advise him or approach his doctors. Any info would be appreciated. Thankk you. Pam Morrison

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your Father having multiple medical and surgical problems which seem to be untreatable or not having any perfect treatment.
Co-morbidity as seen by involvement of multiple organs like heart, kidneys and uncontrolled diabetes with its complications alone with the old age of patient may not help with.
You could have started to use hernia truss for your Father as a Surgeon may not advise you on paper.
I would advise you the following:
Please consult your primary Doctor to discuss about any special facility for such patients in your country.
You can take the help of your Doctor for getting a registered nurse or so for proper care of your Father.
If all the consultants are unable to treat the conditions due to terminal illness then follow the guidelines set for these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
