What Causes Severe Pain In Lower Left Side Of The Back?
My wife age 60 started having extreme pain in lower left side of back Sunday night about 11:00 pm. Was unable to find a comfortable position to lay in, and not able to sleep. Still in pain Monday evening, unable to sit. Only position to relieve any pain is to lay down, but still painful. Checking the skin on lower back left is ridged and stiff like bone. The same area on the right side of back is soft and supple.

I.had gone through the question and understand your concern.
See, usually back pain occurs because of sitting or sleepin in.wrong posture for long or after doing strenuous work.
Also , at this age , calcium deficiency can be one of the reason for back ache.
If i were the consulting doctor , i would have prescribed , analgesic tablets and ointment along with calcium supplement.
