What Causes Severe Pain In Belly Button?

My father is 85. he has a sharp pain about 3 inches to the right from his belly button and one inch down. he says his pain is and eight if the pain scale is from 1 to 10. He will not let me take him to the hospital and said he d like to go to sleep and see how he feels in the morning. Any ideas of what that could be?
