What Causes Severe Pain During A Colonoscopy?
I had colonoscopy due to possible fixed sigmoid colon previous TAH and pelvic floor repair. I was in agony when they did the colonoscopy.Why was this? Also mild diverticular disease in sigmoid and descending colon can you explain this in simple terms thank you

Diverticulosis means small pouches are formed in the lining of the bowel. In your case mild diverticular disease in sigmoid and descending colon means tiny pea size pouches are formed. These usually don't cause much damage except if they are bleeding due to rupture of near blood vessels. Colonoscopy is normally an uncomfortable but not a painful procedure. But in your case, if you have any rectal bleeding, colonoscopy will be painful. Your pain may also be caused when the tube passes through one of the diverticula present there thus causing wrong turn and bending of the tube and difficult angulation. In severe diverticulitis, colonoscopy is avoided due to extreme pain.
