What Causes Severe Pain And Soreness In Knee After Hip Replacement Surgery?

I am still very sore and have a lot of knee pain after having total hip replacement surgery. I am going on week 5 - I am walking with a cane and try to walk without it but still have a lot of what I would call nerve pain and pain centered around my knee. Is this normal? I am also a little uneven - my operated side is a bit longer and I don t want that to last. I have been told by my doctor to give that a few months as the muscles etc. will stretch.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Yes it is normal, joint replacement is considered major surgery and there will be a few pains and aches for a while, but as rehabilitation goes about, along with physiotherapy, they should all subside.

The new prosthesis takes time to get right in position, and for you to start walking evenly, so give it time as your doctor said and you should be fine soon.

Best wishes.
