What Causes Severe Pain And Difficulty Breathing In A Pleural Effusion Patient?

My mom is experiencing severe pain and trouble breathing due to pleural effusion. She is on meloxicamand tramadol and spends most of the day in a haze. She experiences a lot of trouble breathing even during the day but she uses a nebulizer to get some relief. My bug concern is that she wakes up in the middle of the night not being able to breathe at all and scrambles to do a nebulizer treatment to be able to breathe somewhat. Shes 80 and lives alone and I just want to know if theres any sleeping position that will help her not wake up in severe pain and unable to breathe?

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, if this is the respiratory disease with formation of plural effusion then such symptoms are very likely to happen, underlying cause of plural effusion is matter of concern, you have not mentioned what kind of respiratory disease she is having, try avoid the pain medicine as long as it is possible particularly NSAID (Non steroid anti-inflammatory disease ) hope this information helps.
