What Causes Severe Pain Along The Spine Upon Sneezing?

When I sneeze I feel a sharp pain along my upper spine, on the right side only. My neck muscles feel tight but that s nothing new. I haven t had any injuries or done an activity that would cause muscle strains. I m 45 years old, female, and about 30 lbs. overweight. What could cause this pain? It s been over 2 weeks and not improving.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a simple muscular pain and does not indicates any significant disease condition.

As a first line management you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persists better to consult an orthopaedician and plan for an MRI scan to rule out possible spine related problems like prolapsed disc,

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
