What Causes Severe Leg Cramps During The Night?

What can help my leg cramps at night? I just started taking 400 mg potassium, 400 - 500 mg magnesium But so far, nothing helps. I have at least 5 friends who have the same problem. Jumping up in middle of night with leg cramps. Hot bath makes it worse. Anything to rub on legs to ease the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Leg cramps what you are experiencing at night could be due to muscle spasms. Kindly take calcium supplementation along with magnesium what you are taking.

Along with it, you need to take antioxidant medications containing Vitamin E and Selenium regularly. Gradually, you should be able to overcome the problem and get back to normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
