What Causes Severe Left Flank Pain?

I have a sore spot in my back that is tender to touch. I have not had any injury or muscle pull. It has been there for two months. I got a CT scan that showed nothing. It is in my left flank area half way between my rib cage and hip bone. It s mostly not noticable but if pressed (like from a massage or leaning against something) then it has a dull ache. I have also had a negative UA. No other symptoms. What could it be?

Hi,

Pain in left flank may be due to

1. Constipation - which causes vague dull pain which cannot be diagnosed by CT scan.

2. Colitis- due to infection of the large bowel, inflammation of bowel also can cause abdominal pain.

Take more of fibres and water to prevent constipation.

Avoid hotel food to prevent colitis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajmohan, Pediatrician
