What Causes Severe Knotting In The Neck?

My 12 year old daughter has horrible knots in her neck. I massage them out several times a day, but they are excruciating for her. She sometimes feels light-headed afterwards. Weirdly, the back of her neck is hot to the touch. We are not sure if it is because she is in competitive dance, or sleeping wrong. (we have changed her pillow...knots are better today, but still hot to the touch.) Thanks, Troy Carkhuff

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern .As per your query you have swelling in your neck . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like tonsillitis , laryngitis or lymph node swelling . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis .

Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test ,blood test and allergy test . Doctor may also take sample for biopsy for any kind of malignancy . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin), anti inflammatory and anti allergic .

For now do warm saline gargles , take benadryl twice a day and avoid food like nuts and sea food . Also avoid spicy and cold food and beverages .
