Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
The past few days i have had a pain in my knee. I am a photograper and am always squatting to take pictures, when I go to stand up my knee really hurts and then my shin feels like it cramping. The pain in my shin almost brings me to tears. What could this be and do I need to make a dr appointment?
The pain in the knee and shin can be related to arthritic changes in the joint and shin splints. This happens due to stress on the area. Proper rest, mild pain killers and support bandage can help.

As you are always having a knee flexed position this has led to the tightness of the hamstring and weakness of the quadriceps muscles. Also, the calf muscles are also weak based on your history.
I will recommend doing reverse walking, static quadriceps, straight leg raise and toe walking.
This should help your muscles to become stronger and improve the muscle physiology thereby avoiding pain and cramps.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
