I have a friend that s 83 yrs old. He has had a hip replacement and left knee replacement done years ago. Now his right knee is giving him such pain it is getting harder for him to bear. Is there any other type of surgery that doesn t open the entire knee as before?

Hello,
It really depends upon what is wrong with his knee. A total knee replacement usually requires an open surgery. If the problems is less serious sometimes they can do an arthroscopic repair of the joint. An arthroscope is a small tube with a camera that requires only a small incision. Sometimes they can do a repair through this scope if the damage is not too severe.
